What It Is

TeamLab Biovortex Kyoto (opened Oct 2025) is TeamLab’s permanent Kyoto venue — 50+ digital art installations across two zones: Athletics Forest (physical, body-responsive art spaces) and Future Park (collaborative, creation-based experiences). A distinct experience from TeamLab Planets Tokyo — broader in scope, Kyoto-specific works, and no water floors (no barefoot requirement, no wet pants).

The venue is 7 min on foot from Kyoto Station’s Hachijo East Gate, making it logistically easy to combine with any central or south Kyoto morning.

Key Zones

Athletics Forest — Physical installation spaces where artwork responds to your movement. Includes a rope and climbing area, light-reactive tunnel spaces, and the signature Massless Amorphous Sculpture (large ambient light structures that change shape with presence).

Future Park — Collaborative digital creation: Sketch Factory lets you draw a creature on paper and watch it come to life and swim into a shared projection. Less physical; more interactive and creative.

Morphing Continuum — Stand-alone large-format installation; abstract forms dissolving and reforming across an entire wall.

  • Morning: Sanjusangendo (opens 8:30 AM, bus from Kyoto Station)
  • Optional midday: Gion wander or Kenninji Temple
  • Lunch: Gion/Higashiyama
  • Afternoon: TeamLab Biovortex (2:00 PM entry)
  • Return Kintetsu → Osaka; home ~5:45 PM; light dinner near house; early bed

Pairs well with: Sanjusangendo · Kenninji Temple · Gion District Doesn’t pair with: Apr 11 Kyoto day — too much back-to-back Kyoto; reserve energy for Saturday
