Last day. Departure is tomorrow morning from HND. This is explicitly a low-energy day — no new clusters, no ambitious plans, no staying out late. One optional short thing in the morning if something is still undone. Afternoon is packing, shopping final lap, and a good dinner near base. Hard stop: in bed by 22:00.

Energy expectation: Low. This is not the day to push. Protect tomorrow.

Photo Prep

Pack: 27mm only — the fatigue-day lens. Lighter, quieter, no decisions. C-slot: C1 all day. This is a wrap-up day. Note: Shoot light and be present. The memory cards are nearly full anyway. Save the batteries for the flight home.

Morning: One Optional Thing

If something is still on the undone list, this is the window — but it must be close and low-effort. No new neighborhoods.

Option: Nezu Shrine (if not done Apr 18) Easy transit from Ikebukuro (20 min). 45-minute focused visit, then back. Done by 10:30 AM.

Option: Yanaka morning walk (if not done Apr 18) Low-pressure neighborhood walk. No transit — Yanaka is quiet and the shotengai is good for a slow morning. Back by 11:00 AM.

Option: Last Shinjuku Gyoen visit If yaezakura bloom is still running and wasn’t seen earlier in the week, this is the last window. Opens 9:00 AM, ~15 min from Ikebukuro. Check Cherry Blossoms - April first — don’t make the trip if bloom has fully finished.

Default: stay close to base. Walk the Ikebukuro block. Find a good coffee. Let the day be easy.

Afternoon: Wrap-Up

Final Shopping Pass

If there are specific items still to buy, do them now. Department store basement food halls (depachika) in Seibu or Tobu — good source for packaged Japanese snacks and sweets to bring home, properly boxed. 30–45 min.

Do not start a new shopping list today. If it wasn’t on the list before this morning, it doesn’t need to happen.

Pack the Big Bag

This takes longer than expected. Do it now, not at midnight.

  • Weigh the bag if concerned about airline limits
  • Toiletries go in last (you still need them tonight)
  • Anything fragile gets wrapped in clothing
  • Camera gear: lenses in the carry-on, not checked

Konbini Run

Last chance for onigiri, onsen tamago, 7-Eleven sandwiches, and Pocari Sweat to stock the flight bag. The konbini near the house covers this in 10 minutes.

Takkyubin Window

If shipping anything ahead to the airport is still possible: today is likely the last chance, but only for early-morning drop-off. See Takkyubin for the timing rules — next-day delivery to HND requires drop-off by specific cutoff times (typically 12:00–14:00 for next-day, depending on the carrier). If you missed the window, you’re carrying it.

Evening: Good Dinner Near Base

No transit tonight. Ikebukuro has enough.

Ramen: Multiple strong options within 5 minutes of the house. This is a completely acceptable last dinner.

Tonkatsu: A good set dinner — breaded cutlet, rice, miso, pickles. Comfort food with a clean ending.

Izakaya near base: If the group wants a proper last-night dinner with drinks, an izakaya within 5-minute walk is the right call. Don’t go far.

What not to do tonight: No Shinjuku. No Shibuya. No late plan. The flight tomorrow is the priority.

Tonight: Departure Prep Checklist

Do all of this before 22:00.

  • Review Last Day - April 20 for the full morning walkthrough — departure times, HND transit, check-in window
  • Finish packing. Close the bag. Put it by the door.
  • Confirm Suica/Pasmo card balance for tomorrow’s airport transit (or keep as a souvenir — either is fine, just decide)
  • Download boarding passes offline in the airline app. Confirm both legs: HND → ATL, ATL → TPA
  • Set two alarms for the morning wake time
  • Charge all devices (phones, camera batteries, portable battery)
  • Leave out tomorrow’s travel clothes — don’t dig through the packed bag in the morning

Check-out is April 20, 10:00 AM. The morning is a logistics sequence, not a leisure morning. See Last Day - April 20 for the full plan.

What Not To Do Today

  • No new neighborhoods
  • No staying out past 22:00
  • Don’t start a new shopping list
  • Don’t agree to a “one more thing” that adds transit

The trip has been good. Let the last day be easy.
