Hard deadline to leave for the gate: 10:30 AM - Delta 295 is an international departure; gate closes early.

What to do:

  • Sky Club (recommended): Jeannette’s Platinum status gets the group into the Delta Sky Club at ATL. The international terminal (T/F concourse) has a Sky Club - confirm the ATL location at login. Showers, food, quiet seating before a long flight.
  • Breakfast: If not eaten before leaving TPA, ATL has solid options in the main domestic terminal and the F concourse (international). Get a real meal before a 14-hour flight.
  • Last US shopping run: Anything forgotten - headphones, neck pillows, snacks, eye masks, US power adapters (Japan uses the same plug, so US chargers work fine).
  • Walk and stretch before sitting for 14 hours - worth doing even if you have lounge access.

Matt’s situation: Matt arrives at ATL independently - confirm his ATL arrival time and meet at the gate or Sky Club before Delta 295 boards. Gate for Delta 295 will be in the F concourse (international).

Segment Notes

TPA → ATL (Delta 1726)

  • Travelers: Jeff, Jeannette, Ana (Matt joins at ATL)
  • Bags: Checked through to HND - no need to claim at ATL
  • TSA: TPA security is generally fast; allow 45 min from curb to gate

ATL → HND (Delta 295)

  • Travelers: All four
  • Seats: [To be confirmed from booking]
  • Bags: Checked to HND - claim at HND baggage after clearing immigration
  • Long haul: ~14h 10m. Meals included on Delta international. Download entertainment before boarding - Wi-Fi on this route is available but inconsistent.
  • Sleep strategy: Departs 11:10 AM Atlanta time, arrives 2:20 PM Japan time (next day). Japan is +14 hours. Try to sleep on the plane during what would be nighttime in Japan - roughly 6-8 hours into the flight. Avoid heavy alcohol.

HND → Osaka House

  • Full routing in First 48 Hours
  • Key: activate eSIM and buy IC cards in arrivals hall before leaving HND

Luggage

Bags are checked at TPA and go straight through to HND. No reclaim at ATL.

At HND: claim bags after clearing immigration and customs, then head to the Keikyu line. If any bag is oversize for the Shinkansen reserved baggage space, that needs to be resolved at check-in in Tampa.

Contingency

If…Then…
TPA → ATL is delayedATL gap shrinks; skip lounge, go straight to F concourse gate. 2h25m is enough buffer for a 30-min delay
ATL → HND is delayedNothing to do - sit tight, rebooking is Delta’s job for a delay. Tokyo arrival pushes later; SmartEX allows switching to a later Nozomi from Shinagawa
Someone misses TPA flightNext TPA→ATL options: check Delta app for next departure. ATL gap may shrink but Delta 295 won’t leave without confirmed connection if ticketed together
