B.B. Garage
Type: Pre-owned / Vintage Watch Dealer City: Osaka Neighborhood: Amerika-Mura, Shinsaibashi, Chuo Ward Hours: ~12:00 PM – 8:00 PM (confirm before visit) Who It’s For: Jeff, Matt
Why It’s On the List
B.B. Garage is a used and vintage watch dealer operating out of Osaka’s Amerika-Mura district. It stocks JDM (Japan domestic market) pieces — watches sold in Japan and not readily available elsewhere — alongside vintage international references. The shop has a different character from the Ginza-area dealers in Tokyo: less formal, more browsable, better for discovery without pressure.
For Jeff and Matt, this is the Osaka equivalent of the Tokyo watch day. Lower stakes than Ginza; higher chance of unexpected finds.
What to Expect
- Inventory focus: Vintage and pre-owned — mix of JDM Seikos and Citizen pieces from the 60s–90s, vintage Rolex and Omega, occasional oddities
- Price range: Broadly lower than Tokyo equivalent dealers for comparable condition pieces — Osaka pricing tends to be less inflated
- Staff interaction: Conversational; browsing is welcome without purchase pressure
- Condition grading: Japanese dealers use condition grades (N, S, A, B, C) — “S rank” means essentially unworn; ask if unsure
JDM Context
JDM watches are Seiko, Citizen, and Orient references made specifically for the Japanese domestic market — higher grade movements, different dials, and case finishing not found in export models. These are the pieces that collectors specifically travel to Japan to find. Amerika-Mura dealers are more likely to have mid-tier JDM than the Ginza shops (which focus on Rolex/Patek).
Prep for the Visit
- Research beforehand: Know what references interest you (Grand Seiko SBGW? King Seiko? Vintage Omega Seamaster?) — easier to ask than browse blindly
- Budget in cash: Vintage watch purchases at smaller dealers are frequently cash only; bring ¥50,000–100,000+ depending on intent
- Bring Jeff’s IDP — not needed here, but worth noting the car day is separate
Getting There
Inside Amerika-Mura — see that page for transit details.
From Osaka House: Kishinosato-Tamade → Nankai Main Line → Namba → walk to Shinsaibashi (~20–25 min total) Or: local bus to Namba area, walk north into Shinsaibashi.
Day Shape
Best combined with:
- Amerika-Mura browse (same block)
- Lunch at Dotonbori (10 min walk south)
- Evening ramen near Namba
Energy level: 🟢 Low — the shop itself is a contained, low-exertion stop; the Amerika-Mura area around it is higher energy
Tokyo Counterparts
If this shop disappoints or sells out of interesting stock, the Tokyo watch dealers are the main event:
- Ginza Rasin — largest pre-owned dealer in Japan (Ginza 4-chome)
- Jack Road — established vintage dealer, Ginza
- Shellman Ginza — curated vintage, strong JDM selection
- Quark Ginza — Ginza multi-floor dealer
