Casual / Flexible Options
Spincoaster Music Bar
Hi-res audio and vinyl listening bar — premium Technics SL-1200GAE-K turntable, high-end speakers for both formats. Intimate, conversation-friendly vibe. No reservation needed.
Three locations — nearest to Ikebukuro:
- Shinjuku (closest) — Doyocho 2-26-2, Shibuya Ward | 19:00–26:00 | 2 stops on Yamanote from Ikebukuro
- Kagurazaka — Tsukutomachi 4-1, Shinjuku Ward | 18:00–24:00 | ~10 min on Yurakucho line
- Ebisu — Minami-Ebisu 3-3-1, Shibuya Ward | 19:00–26:00 | ~25 min
Go to: Shinjuku on any night near that end of town. Kagurazaka if you’re already in that direction.
HUB British Pub
Casual British pub chain — sports on screens, cheap drinks, mix of locals and expats. Not a jazz club. Two flavors:
- Ikebukuro (3 locations) — walkable from the house. East Exit and West Exit branches. Zero travel cost, zero commitment. Good for a low-key night cap.
- Asakusa — 1F, 1-12-2 Asakusa, Taito-ku | Live jazz (swing/dixieland) every night | Cover up to ¥2,500 | ~30 min from Ikebukuro via Hibiya line. This is the one if you want live jazz without a reservation or dressy vibe.
Ikebukuro Jazz — Near the House
Ikebukuro has a small but real jazz scene. All walkable or a short cab from the house:
- Jazz Live Bar Independence (Apple Jump area, West Ikebukuro) — narrow bar with a stage, live music nightly, mix of pros and amateurs. Walk-in friendly.
- Apple Jump — small dedicated jazz live house near Ikebukuro Station. Focused room, nightly performances. Can fill up — arrive early or check ahead on busy nights.
- Somethin’ Jazz Club — soul, funk, and jazz; live jam sessions nightly. Casual pricing.
Bottom line: On any Tokyo night you don’t want to travel far, you can walk to HUB Ikebukuro for drinks or grab a cab to one of the jazz spots in the same neighborhood.
