Departure day. Flight is Delta 294, HND → ATL, departing 3:15 PM.
Check-out from Tokyo House is 11:00 AM.
This gives you roughly 5 hours between check-out and takeoff. Use them.
April 19 (Sunday Evening) - The Night Before
Do these on April 19 so the morning is calm:
Luggage decision (by 8:00 PM April 19):
- If sending bags to HND via takkyubin: drop at a nearby convenience store (7-Eleven, FamilyMart) or ask the host to arrange Yamato pickup. Must happen April 19 evening for next-day airport delivery. See Takkyubin.
- If carrying bags: pack completely tonight; do not leave packing for the morning.
Other April 19 tasks:
- Confirm all four passports are packed and accessible - not buried in checked bags
- Screenshot or download boarding passes for Delta 294 (and Delta 1594 for TPA travelers)
- Confirm Matt’s ATL situation - he has no TPA segment
- Last omiyage run: Shinagawa Station or any neighborhood still on the list
- Final combini run: snacks and drinks for the airport / plane
Last Tokyo dinner: No pressure. Pick something close to the house, not a long transit away. The Ōmori area has ramen and izakaya nearby, or Shinagawa (7 min) has a wide food basement.
Timeline
| Time | What |
|---|---|
| By 11:00 AM | Check out of Tokyo House - door secured, property clear |
| 11:00–11:30 AM | Final walk, breakfast near Ōmori area, convenience store run for snacks/drinks |
| 12:30 PM | Hard departure from house — bags in hand or already forwarded |
| 12:30–12:50 PM | Transit to HND — Ōmorimachi → Keikyu → Haneda Terminal 3, ~15 min, ~¥290 |
| 12:50–1:00 PM | Arrive HND International Terminal - check in |
| 1:00–2:45 PM | Security, immigration, gate area. HND international terminal has good food and shops - no need to rush through |
| 3:15 PM | Delta 294 departs HND |
Do not leave later than 12:30 PM from the house. Haneda is only 15 min away — you have more cushion than the old Ikebukuro routing.
Getting to HND
Option A - Train (recommended)
From Ōmorimachi Station (~5 min walk from house):
- Keikyu Main Line southbound → Haneda Airport Terminal 3 (International) — direct, ~15 min
- Walk to check-in counters - 5 min
Total: ~25 min door to check-in desk Cost: ~¥290/person (IC card)
This is the easiest airport transfer of the trip. Same line as the house, no transfers.
Option B - Taxi / Ride Share (backup)
Direct taxi from Tokyo House → HND: ~¥2,500–3,500, ~20 min (traffic-dependent)
Use as backup if bags are too heavy or someone needs door-to-door service. Cheaper and faster than the old Ikebukuro routing.
Luggage Options
Option A - Carry your bags on departure day
The straightforward choice if bags are manageable. Keep them at the property until check-out, then carry to HND.
Coin lockers at Shinagawa Station (7 min on Keikyu) if you want to drop bags and have a final free hour: ¥500–800 for medium-large bags.
Option B - Takkyubin to HND (recommended if bags are heavy)
Ship bags from Tokyo House directly to HND on the evening of April 19.
- Ask the Tokyo House host to arrange, or go to the nearest convenience store (7-Eleven, FamilyMart) with bags
- Use Yamato Transport (ヤマト運輸) - airport delivery service (空港宅急便)
- Bags arrive at HND before your flight - claim at a dedicated counter before check-in
- Cost: ¥1,500–2,500 per large bag depending on size/weight
- Must arrange April 19 evening - same-day delivery is not guaranteed
If you used takkyubin from Osaka House → Tokyo House on April 14, the same service runs in reverse.
HND International Terminal
Delta departs from Terminal 3 (国際線ターミナル / International Terminal).
- Monorail: ride to the last stop - “Haneda Airport Terminal 3”
- Check-in desks: Delta is typically on the upper level - follow signs for Delta / Sky Team
- Security and immigration: allow 45–60 min in April peak (holiday departure crowds)
- Gate area: shops, food, duty-free - HND International is a good terminal; relax once through
If travelling with Matt separately (different domestic booking): Confirm he’s on the same HND → ATL segment (Delta 294) and plan the same HND transit. ATL → TPA is Jeff/Jeannette/Ana only.
Morning Before You Go
A good last morning doesn’t need a plan. Options near the house:
- Combini breakfast - FamilyMart or 7-Eleven near the house: onigiri, hot coffee, tamagoyaki sandwich. Under ¥1,000 for a complete breakfast. The most Japanese way to end the trip.
- Final ramen - Ōmori area has local spots; Shinagawa Station food basement (7 min) has multiple options open by 11 AM
- Last-minute omiyage - Shinagawa Station has a small shopping area; anything bigger means a Yamanote detour, but Haneda Terminal 3 duty-free is also solid for last gifts
Don’t try to fit in another sight. Use the morning to eat well, move slow, and leave on time.
On the Way Home
ATL layover: Delta 294 arrives ATL at 2:50 PM (same day, time zone magic). Delta 1594 to TPA departs 5:25 PM — 2h 35m layover. Seats: 18A / 18B + 1. Delta Main Classic (X), Airbus A321. Delta Sky Club access at ATL via Jeannette’s Platinum status.
Matt: No TPA segment - check his separate ATL booking.
Customs at ATL: US citizens re-enter through APC kiosks (fast). Checked bags (if any) need to be reclaimed and re-checked for the domestic connection.
